Spring into Summer Activities in Ogunquit!

Believe it or not, summer’s finally knocking on the door here in Southern Maine, and that means that the beloved hamlet of Ogunquit is ready to welcome you at its liveliest! With a stay at one of Ogunquit.com’s charming, well-appointed, and centrally located properties, you’ll have the best of the “Beautiful Place by the Sea” during this wonderful time of year at your fingertips.

Here are just a few of the summertime activities you can start looking forward to now!

Beachgoing

A lauded three-mile beachfront helps define Ogunquit’s Gulf of Maine seashore, and its appeal is most definitely in the timeless category. Get some sand between your toes and enjoy the soundtrack of the swash on Ogunquit Beach or Footbridge Beach.

Go Walking & Hiking

Speaking of Ogunquit Beach, you can walk from there to the postcard-perfect fishing village of Perkins Cove via Ogunquit’s famous Marginal Way: a roughly milelong paved oceanfront path serving up abundant scenic beauty and a deeply tranquil vibe. Admire a lighthouse, explore tidepools, and kick back on benches while soaking up the Atlantic oceanscape.

Hiking opportunities also abound in Ogunquit’s near vicinity. Explore miles of trails through coastal woods, wetlands, and dune/beach complexes at the Wells Reserve just a stone’s throw away. Meanwhile, among the most significant blocks of protected forest in New England’s maritime zone—and some spectacular far-reaching views—await you in the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region.

Biking In & Around Ogunquit

Relish the fine summer weather while pedaling Shore Road, or tackle the 65-mile Eastern Trail between Kittery and South Portland. Besides all the road cycling, mountain-biking enthusiasts have topnotch circuits to enjoy at destinations such as Mount Agamenticus and Bradbury Mountain.

Ogunquit Playhouse

Ogunquit’s venerable summer theater celebrates its 90th anniversary this year! As usual, Ogunquit Playhouse has a stacked lineup of shows for its 26-week, May-to-October season, kicking off with The Cher Show (May 12th through June 25th) direct from Broadway.

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art

Another of the Beautiful Place by the Sea’s linchpin cultural institutions, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art evokes the town’s early history as a seaside artist colony. The museum opened its doors for the season on the first of May, and along with its stellar permanent collection is presenting a number of special exhibitions this year, including Josephine Halvorson: On the Ground through July 19th in the Carol & Noel Leary Gallery.

York’s Wild Kingdom

Especially attractive for families vacationing with us here at Ogunquit.com, York’s Wild Kingdom encompasses both a zoo with critters from all over the globe and a well-stocked amusement park—the only such combination attraction in New England. It’s another classic summertime destination for Ogunquit visitors.
