Skiing & Winter Fun near Ogunquit, ME

Ogunquit, Maine is an outdoor lover’s destination all year round. Here in the depths of winter, our region’s ample snows provide a genuine playground for skiers, snowshoers, and other worshippers of the white stuff.

Here are three fine destinations for winter recreation within easy reach of the Gorges Grant Hotel and the Juniper Hill Inn here in the Beautiful Place by the Sea!

Powderhouse Hill

This much-loved ski hill in South Berwick is only about a half-hour drive west of Ogunquit. It gets its name not from the powder that skiers and snowboarders covet but from a historic powder house—a storage facility for gunpowder—which once sat on what was originally called Butler’s Hill.

Managed by the volunteer Powderhouse Ski Club, Powderhouse Hill claims 175 feet of vertical, three trails, and an old-school-style rope tow. All-ages fun awaits up here on the hill!

Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region

Even closer to Ogunquit, the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region is one of the crown jewels of our area: a low but noble mountain supporting the greatest swath of coastal forest between Acadia National Park and the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

With an adequate snowpack, snowshoers can explore the highland’s extensive, up-and-down trail network. A great workout and some fabulous scenery!

Harris Farm

Less than an hour’s drive north of Ogunquit, Harris Farm maintains groomed and track-set trails for cross-country skiers on its handsome 600-acre property. You can ski these routes—which range from gentle beginner-friendly trails to hillier courses catering to advanced skiers—from 9 AM to dusk each and every day, weather-permitting. Or rent snowshoes or fatbikes, if those are more your style. If you’ve got little ones in tow, you can, well, tow them on skis via rentable pulk sleds.

Harris Farm has a great lodge for relaxing warming-up sessions, complete with a woodstove and weekend refreshments; this is also where you can rent equipment.
