Patriots Day Weekend Getaway in Ogunquit & Opening Day at The Milestone
April is just around the corner, and you know what that means: Patriots’ Day will soon be upon us!
Patriots’ Day, an official holiday in Maine, marks the anniversary of the opening clashes of the American Revolution: the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which took place on April 19, 1775.
Celebrate Patriots’ Day, Ogunquit-Style
Ogunquit knows how to throw a Patriots’ Day party, needless to say. This year’s celebration, the 27th edition, kicks off on Friday, April 21 and runs through the weekend. The proceedings have something for everybody. We’re talking multiple treasure hunts, hay rides, bazaars, historical reenactments (of George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware, the Boston Tea Party, and the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima), stirring fife-and-drum music, book sales at the Ogunquit Memorial Library, pie contests, and a screening of The Patriot, to name only a sampling.
And we’d be remiss if we didn’t preview one of the absolute high point of the local Patriots’ Day proceedings: the Patriotic Pooch Pageant and Fashion Show. The event is just what it sounds like: Beginning at 12:30 PM in the parking lot of Liquid Dreams, you’ll see a whole passel of four-legged friends decked out in some pretty adorable American spirit, festooned in red, white, and blue or costumed as some of the country’s iconic historical figures. It all makes for an unforgettable spectacle.
The Milestone Opens April 14
As it happens, the Patriotic Pooch Pageanta and all the other Patriots’ Day festivities in Ogunquit come fresh on the heels of the seasonal opening of one of our beloved locations, The Milestone, which begins welcoming guests on April 14. This property puts Ogunquit’s main attractions—including the multiple Patriots’ Day venues—right at your fingertips, while providing thoroughly relaxing accommodations right along Main Street.
