Ogunquit Beach & Footbridge Beach

We’re deep into the budding and blossoming goodness of spring here in the Beautiful Place by the Sea, and the warming temperatures and lengthening days of this long, lazy lead up to summer have definitely put us in the mind of beach season!

When you stay with us at the Gorges Grant Hotel, the Milestone, the Juniper Hill Inn, or the Cottage at Acorn Lane, you’re just a stone’s throw or two from Ogunquit’s Atlantic waterfront, so if it’s a New England-style beach vacation you’re after, look no further!

Beach Hangouts At Your Fingertips

For some three and a half miles, Ogunquit Beach’s tufted dunes and gleaming white sand separate the Ogunquit River and the Atlantic Ocean. This beloved seashore commonly ends up ranking high in tallies of America’s finest beaches, and one visit to its serene shores and you’ll see why. It’s an all-out paradise for sunbathers, swimmers, beachcombers, and bodysurfers—and it’s a paradise that’s a mere stroll (or short drive) from our Ogunquit.com properties.

The whole beachfront’s a beauty, but one of our favorite spots is on the northern side of the sandy peninsula: Footbridge Beach. This typically quieter alternative to Ogunquit Beach proper is so named because you reach it by—you guessed it—a charming plank bridge over the brackish Ogunquit River.

There’s a little concession stand at Footbridge Beach as well as public restrooms; the more developed main beach also has refreshments available (including at onsite restaurants), plus beach chairs, beach umbrellas, and floats for rent.

And if our local sands have whetted your appetite for more littoral lounging, you might consider a short jaunt farther north to seven-mile-long Wells Beach between Moody Point and the Webhannet River mouth, which has numerous public beaches scattered along its length.

**Ogunquit.com Tip: For you true ‘beach bums’ out there, our closest property to Footbridge Beach is The Milestone, about a 5 minute walk away!**

Beach Essentials

You’ll want to bring along sunblock and a good sun hat for your Ogunquit beachgoing, plus a towel or beach chair and beach umbrella (if you aren’t renting gear at Ogunquit Beach). If you’ve got little ones in tow, you probably ought to have some of the classic beach tools on hand: buckets, shovels, and the like. (When was the last time you built a sand castle? You’re probably overdue.)

And speaking of classics, don’t forget the beach reading: There’s something about sand between your toes, the surf murmuring in your ear, and the glinting sunlight on the breakers that primes you for a page-turner.
