Memorial Day Weekend in Ogunquit, ME

The unofficial inauguration of summertime is just around the corner, and there’s no better place to enjoy it than Ogunquit, Maine!

Memorial Day weekend will be here before you know it, and we at Ogunquit.com  would love to be your host at one of our wonderful locations. We’re filling up quickly, though, so touch base with us today to make sure you’ve squared away your holiday accommodations along one of New England’s  most stunning stretches of seashore!

Late May in Ogunquit is delightful. Whether you’ve been here before or not, the season’s ideal as an introduction (or reintroduction) to this “Beautiful Place by the Sea.” The friendly weather sets the picture-perfect layout of the town in lovely definition: from the breakers of the Atlantic to the quaint tree-lined side streets.

Soak Up the Seashore

From a vantage at any of our lodging options—the Gorges Grant Hotel, the Milestone, the Juniper Hill Inn, or the Cottage at Acorn Lane—it’s an absolute pleasure to stroll down to the Ogunquit seashore. Walk the Marginal Way or wile away the hours at Ogunquit Beach: The wash of the waves, the rich scent of the sea air, the murmur of gulls all add up to some soothing oceanside therapy.

Take in Some Live Theater

When you’re not relishing the Atlantic ambiance, you’ve got many specific attractions in Ogunquit to enjoy. The Ogunquit Playhouse, the summer theater that’s put the town on the national map for 85 years, is opening its doors on May 17 with a production of Mamma Mia! (followed up by quite the lineup of other productions, including Ragtime and From Here to Eternity). Don’t forget our special Ogunquit.com theater package, which lets you combine tickets to an Ogunquit Playhouse show with overnight accommodations at one of our hotels and a home run breakfast at our popular restaurant Raspberri’s.

Art Smart

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art will also be open Memorial Day weekend (the museum kicks off its 2017 season on May 1st), and there’s a great spread of special exhibitions this summer to explore. These include Dahlov Ipcar: Creative Growth, which celebrates the life and work of an acclaimed Maine artist; a display of Gary Haven Smith’s rock-hewn sculptures; and Ernest Hemingway and Henry Strater, focused on the great American author and the Ogunquit-based painter who established the Museum of American Art back in 1953.
