Lodging for Ogunquit’s Christmas By the Sea

It’s a bit hard to believe, but the holiday season is very much upon us, which here in Ogunquit, Maine means it’s time to start looking keenly forward to Christmas by the Sea!

Ogunquit’s Christmas by the Sea

Christmas by the Sea is Ogunquit’s beloved town wide yuletide extravaganza. This year, it’s underway Friday, December 7th through Sunday, December 9th—which means now’s a good time to lock down your Ogunquit.com accommodations at the Gorges Grant Hotel or the Juniper Hill Inn for the fast-approaching occasion.

The Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce hasn’t yet released the lineup of events for Christmas by the Sea 2018, but you can expect oodles of good cheer, merriment, and family-friendly fun all across our fair town. Wine tastings and bazaars, art sales and business open houses, holiday games and story hours: The three-day celebration comes packed with ways to get fully immersed in the holiday spirit.

Santa Claus, you’ll likely not be surprised to learn, makes a few appearances at Christmas by the Sea, sparing time out of his busy schedule to take photos with the little ones (and the big ones).

Tree lighting ceremonies go down at Veterans Park as well as Rotary Park in Perkins Cove, the Ogunquit Baptist Church hosts concerts, and the Dunaway Center typically shows a holiday movie. The Christmas Parade, meanwhile, proceeds from Perkins Cove to Main Beach with the Ogunquit Ocean Rescue Polar Plunge, a bonfire, and oceanfront fireworks to follow.

You can get a taste for what Christmas by the Sea is like by taking a gander at last year’s itinerary (as well as our own Ogunquit.com blogpost overviewing that 31st annual edition).

Christmas by the Sea & Christmas Prelude: A One-Two Punch of Holiday Cheer

Ogunquit’s Christmas by the Sea overlaps with Kennebunkport, Maine’s own holiday celebration just up the Atlantic shore: Christmas Prelude. That 11-day celebration, which includes its own busy lineup of events, activities, and seasonal displays, begins on November 29th and wraps up the same day as Christmas by the Sea.

There’s more, too: That Sunday (Dec. 9th) also features the 33rd Annual Wells Christmas Parade a stone’s throw from Ogunquit, so needless to say there’s going to be a lot of holiday merrymaking all along our gorgeous Southern Maine coast within ready reach of your Ogunquit.com accommodations!
