Fall Festival Season in Maine

We admit to being a little on the biased side, but we don’t think you can top Maine for fall scenery, ambience, and celebrations.

And on that latter subject, we thought we’d spotlight just a few of the many, many great autumn festivals going down all across the state. Here are some of the best within easy, day-tripping reach of Ogunquit, where you’ll find unbeatable fall lodgings in the Beautiful Place by the Sea with Ogunquit.com!

Fall Festival—Wolfe’s Neck Farm (Freeport)

Wolfe’s Neck Farm—a historic saltwater farm run by a non-profit dedicated to pursuing and promoting sustainable agriculture—hosts this annual fall party on October 14 from 10 AM to 3 PM. From meet-and-greets with farm critters and hayrides over to the pumpkin patch to great local food, autumn crafts, and live music, the Fall Festival is bound to be a blast!

Harvest on the Harbor (Portland)

Foodies and all-around bon vivants staying with us at the Gorges Grant Hotel, Juniper Hill Inn, or Milestone here in Ogunquit ought to consider a jaunt up-coast to Portland for the 2017 Harvest on the Harbor. This food-and-drink festival, which takes place October 17 through the 22nd, is one of the city’s signature yearly events, with ticket sales going to benefit the charity Full Plates Full Potential. From Flavors of Maine and the Harvest Happy Hour to the crowning of the Maine Lobster Chef of the Year, Harvest on the Harbor events take place all around Portland, and there’s really something for every palate on offer.

Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival—L.L. Bean Campus (Freeport)

The Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival involves on the order of 10,000 jack-o-lanterns, which would definitely make the event worth the price of admission alone—that is, if it weren’t completely free of charge! There’ll also be pumpkin-carving and other family-friendly activities, a Halloween costume parade, live tunes, and other delights. The fun gets underway October 21 at noon; the lighting of the jack-o-lanterns starts at 5 PM.

Portland Beer Week (Portland)

Enjoy a craft brew now and then? Well mark your calendars for Portland Beer Week, which brings plenty of hops and suds to the Maine capital November 5 through the 11th. Besides beer-pairing dinners and oodles of tap takeovers, the festivities—which coincide with the Maine Brewers Festival—will include plenty of nods to the season, not least the Pumpkin-Palooza showcase of pumpkin-flavored beers.

We hope you’ll come join us at an Ogunquit.com hotel this autumn and take in a seasonal festival or two: On top of all the fun of the destinations and events themselves, you’ll also get to soak up lots of fall colors on the drive!
