Ogunquit’s Christmas By the Sea

The specific itinerary for the 2019 Christmas by the Sea event—which takes place December 13th through the 15th—hasn’t been revealed yet, but you can be sure of a fantastic time absolutely drenched in merry holiday spirit along the Gulf of Maine.

Christmas by the Sea will feature a slew of holiday crafts, games, hayrides, and markets that make for one of Maine’s truly classic family-friendly seasonal festivals.

There’ll also be a well-attended Christmas Parade wending its way from Perkins Cove to Main Beach, where a jampacked evening of fun will then unfold, with the Ogunquit Ocean Rescue Polar Plunge, a bonfire, and some spectacular oceanfront fireworks.

Both Veterans Park and Rotary Park will host tree-lighting ceremonies (accompanied by caroling, warm beverages, and no small quantity of good cheer) during Christmas by the Sea, while holiday concerts will go down at the Ogunquit Baptist Church and some holiday flicks at the Dunaway Center.

What else? Well, how about wine tastings, late-night parties, and some high-profile appearances by the big man himself, Santa Claus, whose cameos are likely to delight not only the younger crowd but all the kids-at-heart in attendance.

Additional Nearby Holiday Happenings

Ogunquit’s Christmas by the Sea overlaps, conveniently, with two other holiday festivals along the local coast. From December 5 through the 15th, Kennebunkport will be throwing its 38th annual Christmas Prelude, which’ll include such favorite traditions as the lighting of the Lobster Trap Tree in Cape Porpoise Square, the Hat Parade, and the grand arrival of Santa (he’s going to be busy in Southern Maine next month) by—what else—lobster boat.

On December 15th—the Sunday marking the last day of both Christmas by the Sea and Kennebunkport’s Christmas Prelude—our neighboring town of Wells will host its 34th annual Christmas Parade, easily combined with Ogunquit festivities.
