Your 2017 Guide to OgunquitFest

We can’t say enough about Southern Maine in the autumn: the crisp and sunny days, the brilliant fall foliage, the quieter streets and backroads—it’s just marvelous.

And if you really want to get into the seasonal spirit of things, we hope you’ll come stay at one of our Ogunquit.com hotels in time to enjoy the quintessential fall celebration of our Beautiful Place by the Sea: OgunquitFest!

This year sees the 14th annual edition of this delightful festival, which runs Friday, October 20 through Sunday the 22nd. There’ll be events and activities going on all across Ogunquit during those three fun-filled days, and accommodations with us at the Gorges Grant Hotel, the Juniper Hill Inn, or The Milestone put you right in the center of all the action!

Highlights of OgunquitFest 2017

The Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce gives a detailed overview of the OgunquitFest itinerary, but let’s have a look at just a few of the goings-on to whet your appetite for the awesomely autumnal weekend!

There’ll be town wide scavenger hunts going down the entire festival; you can learn more in the official OgunquitFest brochure. And businesses all around the village will be participating in the annual Fall Decorating Contest, with ballot boxes accepting votes for your favorite displays through Saturday, October 21.

Both Saturday and Sunday will see an Autumn Bazaar in the Main Beach parking lot from 10 AM to 3 PM, with some 75 different vendors selling all sorts of wares. On Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM, the bazaar will overlap with the Antique & Classic Car Show in the same spot—and you’ll be able to cast a vote for your favorite vintage ride!

Kids’ll love the Great Pumpkin Patch Presentation (10 to 11 AM Saturday at the Dunaway Center), the Fall Story Hour (11 AM to noon at the same spot on the same day), and the many other family-friendly activities going on during OgunquitFest.

Some delightful competitions will take place, too: from the Whoopie Pie Eating Contest (noon to 1 PM Saturday at the Old Village School Playground) and the Dogtoberfest Pooch Pageant costume contest (11:30 AM Sunday in the Main Beach Parking Lot) to the Waiter Races (noon Sunday on Beach Street) and High Heel Dash & Walk-Off (3 PM Sunday at Perkins Cove).

Given OgunquitFest falls just a little shy of Halloween, it’s appropriate that Saturday evening will turn a little supernatural thanks to the Ogunquit Heritage Museum’s Ghostly Tours, led from 6 to 8 PM through the shrouded streets. You’ll want a flashlight and a little bit of nerve (though this is a good-natured and kid-appropriate adventure). The OgunquitFest Obstacle Course along the Ogunquit River at Main Beach on Saturday afternoon will also have a Halloween theme, meanwhile.
